Connecting From HomeMany faculty find it useful to access network resources, such as electronic mail, BlackBoard, or our Web server, from home. These services are available. Faculty may prefer to get Internet service from an ISP (Internet Service Provider) which can provide the speed of DSL or a cable modem. You should investigate what your local providers can offer. To access the full range of services from a third party ISP, you will need to configure a Proxy Server, or set up Virtual Private Networking. More information is available at http://www.trincoll.edu/depts/cc/documentation/comm-dialin/DSL_cable/. Faculty can also connect to Trinity’s network via a modem connection (28.8 kbs or faster). This provides essentially the same access that people have on campus, but connection speeds are significantly slower. If you will be downloading large files to your home computer, or spending a great deal of time on your home computer accessing the Internet, Trinity dial-in will probably be inadequate for your needs. A high-speed ISP should be considered instead. More specific information is available under the "Help Guides" link on the Computing Center Web page, in the Service and Tools section. This includes detailed coverage of getting set up with all of connection methods. You can also consult with the Help Desk at 2100 to discuss your specific needs.
