Setting Up and UsingMail: MAC v.X - IMAP SettingsIntroductionElectronic mail, or "e-mail," has become an indispensable tool for intra- and inter-office communication. It allows computers to send messages to people all over the world, as well as Trinity students, faculty and staff. Mail is used in reading, storing, and sending e-mail messages over the Internet and it is designed for Macintosh users. This program comes with MAC OS v.X. These pages provide information on how to set up Mail for your use. E-mail Accounts and PasswordsBoth faculty and staff should know their NT account, password, and e-mail address. Before you can get your Trinity email using Mail you must configure it properly with your personal information. The following steps should demonstrate how to setup the program for basic email use. If you are using Mail for the first time, you will see the following screen. Enter the information as shown below. Mail wouldn't let you get by without typing anything here. If have been using mail and just want to change its settings, ship to the next screen/step.
Mail is then going to ask you whether you want to import mailboxes from other email programs like Outlook Express and Eudora. If you have been using other programs and now switching to Mail, then this would be a good idea. However, you can always choose to do this later.
Then click on the Mail menu and select Preferences.
Once you click on Preferences, you should see the following screen. If not, please select Accounts. Since Mail forced you to enter something at the beginning, there should already be one account as shown. If everything was typed correctly at the entry screen "Welcome to Mail", then your Account information should look like this. For those who has been using Mail, either change your current settings to the following or setup a second account with these settings.
If you wish, you may refine some of your Mail settings using the Other Mail Configuration instructions below, but this is optional.
Part 2: Other Mail Configuration In order to access the configuration settings for the Trinity email account you need to click on the Preferences item under the Mail menu. The window will open listing all the existing accounts, select the Trinity Mail account and click on the Edit button. The Account window will open. For the settings on the Account Information tab refer to above instruction. If you click on the Special Mailboxes tab the window should look as following. These options are very much self explanatory and they refer to autoimmunization of the Mail program. Basically here you can tell to the program how to manage you emails, where to store then and how to delete them.
If you click on the Advanced tab, you should get the following options. The upper part of the window contains configurations about the account. You can disable the account or tell it what to download for online viewing. The bottom part of the window should stay as default. Make sure that the IMAP Path Prefix is blank.
