VPN Client Configuration for Mac OSX 10.2+ (Jaguar)

To connect to the VPN server at Trinity, you need to first make sure that you are connected to the Internet by dialing in to your ISP, unless you have a dedicated connection to the Internet (such as DSL or Cable) where you don't need to dial. Connecting to the Internet puts you on the same worldwide Internet backbone where the Trinity VPN server is connected. Then you make a second connection to create a VPN connection.

To create this second connection to the Trinity server, follow the procedure described below:

1.  First, make sure you have the Finder menu set at the top.  Click on go and then Applications.

2.  That will bring up the Application window.  Then double click on Internet Connect.

3.  Opening Internet Connect will bring up a screen that looks like this.  Click on File and then New VPN Connection Window.

4.  You must then fill in the appropriate information.  Since you are a student, enter in holland.trincoll.edu as the server name and then your username and password.  NOTE: It is not recommended to save your password in the keychain.

5.  Then click CONNECT and you will then have an active VPN connection.

Troubleshooting

1.  When you hit connect, it returns a message saying 'unknown server address.'  Make sure to type holland.trincoll.edu in the Server address field.
2.  When you hit connect, it returns a message saying 'Authentication failed.'  Make sure to enter the correct username and password.  Your username is usually your first initial and then first seven letters of your last name.  For example, John Doe would have jdoe as his username.  If you think it might be your password, call the Help Desk at x2007.  If your password does need to be changed, you will have to come down to LITC level B, near the grand staircase,  to get your password changed.  NOTE: You must bring your Trinity ID.
