VPN Client Configuration for Windows XP A Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection is required to access campus resources normally available only from Trinity's on-campus network, including file servers and library databases. A VPN connection allows an individual to access these resources remotely from anywhere in which they have a connection to the Internet. For the most secure VPN connection, the client of choice is the Cisco VPN client which supports Windows XP and 2000. Download the VPN Client Click on the link below to download the Cisco software: Install the Cisco VPN ClientAfter you download the file, double click on it to start the file extraction and installation process. You may accept the default extraction folder or choose an alternate Unzip to folder path. Also, if you choose to only extract the files, uncheck the When done unzipping open check box:
Click Next and the License Agreement window will appear, accept the license agreement and click Next
Accept the default destination folder or specify an alternate path to install the client then click Next. Click Next on the Ready to Install the Application window to start the installation. Click Finish to complete the installation and a restart message window will appear. After you have restarted your computer, you will need to configure the client.
Setup your Trinity VPN Connection
Start up the client interface by going to A new window opens. To create a connection to Trinity, click on the New icon and then the Create New VPN Connection Entry window will be displayed. Under the Authentication tab, enter the following information:
Click on the Transport tab. Select Enable Transparent Tunneling and IPSec over UDP (NAT/PAT):
Click Save to save the configuration and return to the Client Connection entry window.
To Start a VPN Connection Select the connection entry for Trinity College and then click Connect in the client window:
When prompted, enter your Trinity username and password (that you use for your e-mail, TCOnline, etc.).
Then click OK. Trinity library resources, or college servers, etc. will now be available to you via the web. Determining if Your VPN Connection is Working One way of determining if you have a successful VPN connection is by making sure you have a closed lock in your menu bar.
Or if you have a closed lock to the left of the connection entry in the client connection window.
To view your connection statistics, click Status on the menu bar and then select Statistics, you should see a screen similar to the following:
