Network Language Lab for the Macintosh

1) Introduction

Computers are playing an increasingly important role in the process of teaching and learning foreign languages. At Trinity we have a shared Macintosh network "server" dedicated solely to the purpose of serving the needs of foreign language scholars and students. This server provides access to a growing collection of software packages designed to assist you in learning foreign languages. The foreign language server is known as the Network Language Lab. Individuals who have used any of the College's shared network file servers (ex., Class Software, User Room Software, or Bantam) will find the procedure extremely familiar.

The Network Language Lab (NLL) can be accessed two ways: By double-clicking on the NLL alias icon in the Network Servers folder or by using the Chooser. (Use the Chooser if no NLL icon exists in the Network Servers folder.)

2) Accessing the Network Language Lab from the Network Servers folder

1. Double-click on the Network Servers folder.

2. Once the Network Servers folder is open, double-click on the NLL icon.

3. Once you have accessed the NLL, double-click on the folder of your choice.

3) Accessing the Network Language Lab via the Chooser

1. Select the Chooser desk accessory from under the Apple menu.
2. Select the Appleshare icon in the upper left hand box. Click on the General Resources zone in the Appletalk Zones box. Finally, double-click on zep in the Select a file server box.

3. At the next window, Click on the Guest button and then click on the OK button. (A password is not needed.)

4. In the third and final window, scroll down until you see the NLL volume. Highlight it by clicking on it and then click the OK button.

5. Close the Chooser desk accessory by clicking on the "close box" on the left side of the title bar. A new icon, called NLL will appear on the desktop. This is the Network Language Lab volume.

6. Double-click on the NLL icon to open it. Once you have accessed the NLL, double-click on the folder of your choice.
