Creating diacritical marks on the Macintosh
Acute -- á, é, í, etc.:
- While holding down the Option key, strike e; then release all
- Type desired vowel
Grave -- à, è, ì, etc.:
- While holding down the Option key, strike ` (upper-left on keyboard); then
release all
- Type desired vowel
Circumflex -- â, ê, î, ô, etc.:
- While holding down the Option key, strike i; then release all
- Type desired vowel
Trema -- ä, ë, ö, ü, etc.:
- While holding down the Option key, strike u; then release all
- Type desired vowel
Tilde -- ñ, õ, etc.:
- While holding down the Option key, strike n; then release all
- Type desired letter
Cedilla -- ç:
- While holding down the Option key, strike c
For ß:
- While holding down the Option key, strike s
For ¿:
- While holding down Shift and Option simultaneously, strike ?
For ¡:
- While holding down the Option key, strike 1
For «:
- While holding down the Option key, strike \
For »:
- While holding down Shift and Option simultaneously, strike \
For (as opposed to dash, -):
- While holding down Shift and Option simultaneously, strike dash
