1) What is
ElementK?
At
ElementK, you can learn almost anything. ElementK is a site that
contains courses on computer programs and provides training services. It
is web based, so it is accessible from anywhere. Also, this setup allows
you to stop/start a course whenever you want from wherever you want. You
can start a course on Word in your office and finish it up hours later in the
computer lab. This web interface also requires no installations or
downloads except for Shockwave, which is a free program.
Also, ElementK offers various levels of learning for the same program.
For example, lets say you needed to do a PowerPoint presentation.
ElementK offers an introduction and an advanced self-study course on
PowerPoint. From these self-taught courses, a user can learn various
programs with hands on training. The advantage of ElementK and these
courses over conventional means is that its like having another person teach
you rather than have you read and try it out on your own. ElementK also
offers its own help on how to use ElementK. They can show you how to use
courses or how to plan what you want to learn and when.
ElementK has self-instructed courses covering everything from Microsoft Word
to Dreamweaver and Photoshop. These courses are done at the user's pace.
The directions come from a control panel that lets you move forward and back
in the lesson. These directions are not only text, but also visual
animations and even audio directions. - Staff/Faculty - Call the Help Desk at x2100. You will receive a number, called an "Access Key", to use to enroll in Element K. - Go to http://www.elementk.com and click on the "Student Enrollment" link. - Enter in the number and proceed to create your ElementK account. You be prompted to create a username and to enter in your e-mail address.
There are 3 different approaches to using the Element K resource. Start at the beginning… 1. Log in to www.elementk.com with your username and password that you set up previously. 2. On the My Courses page, click on the Course Catalog tab. 3. Click on the type of course you’d like to take on the left navigation bar. 4. Click on the title of a course that you desire. 5. Work through the course at your own pace. Identify your skill gaps… 1. Log in to www.elementk.com with your username and password. 2. On the My Courses page, click on the Course Catalog tab 3. Click on Courses with Assessment. 4. Click on a course title. 5. Complete the assessment. 6. Click on Finish. 7. Complete recommended tutorials. Just in time--performance support 1. Log in to www.elementk.com with your username and password. 2. On the My Courses page, enter a keyword(s) into the search box. 3. Click on the tutorial that best matches your need. 4. Complete only as many screens of the tutorial as you need. Help is available from the Element K site by clicking the Help button for contextual information. Click the Contact Us button on the main page to contact the Element K support staff by e-mail or with a live chat which is available 24 hours a day. You can reach Element K by phone at 1-800-409-0030 or 1-716-240-7334. If you can’t remember your Element K password, click the "Forgot Your Password?" button under the login boxes on the main page, and you’ll be sent your password again in the email account you entered when you enrolled for Element K.
