Add
Hyperlinks to Your Web Page
Hyperlinks are links that allow
someone reading your web page to jump from your page to:
- Another web page (yours or
someone else's)
- Another location on the
same web page
You can attach a hyperlink to
either text or an image on your page. If the link is
attached to text, that text usually appears in
blue and underlined when someone views your page, as
"Add links" probably did on the page you used
to access this one. The text might appear differently if
the viewer has altered their web browser to use colors
other than the ones it was originally set up with.
To add a link from text
on your page to another web page:
- Using the mouse, highlight
the section of text you want the viewer to click
on. This can be a
word, a sentence, or part of a sentence.
- Click on the Toolbar icon
that matches the icon pictured to the left. FrontPage
will present a box which will allow you to select
the page you wish to link to:

- Open Pages
allows you to link to any web page you're
currently working on.
- Current
FrontPage Web allows you to link
to any page in the web you're currently
working in.
- World Wide
Web allows you to link to any
page anywhere. All you need to know is
the URL of that page.
- New Page
allows you to link to a page that does
not yet exist. It gives you the option of
creating that page right now, or of
adding a note to create that page to FrontPage's
ToDo List.
- If you know the name of the
page you want to link to (its format will be
'name-of-page.htm' or 'name-of-page.html'), you
can simply type the name in the box labeled
"Page:". If you do not know the exact
name of the page, you can use the browse button
to locate it. Once you've located the page, click
OK.
The text you selected as the
link will now appear in blue and underlined.
To add a link from text on your
page to another location on the same page:
- First, you have to identify
the location--the exact place on the page--that
you want to be able to jump to. To do that, you
set a bookmark:
- Move the cursor to
the exact location on your page that you
want to be able to jump to.
- Click once. This sets the location
for the bookmark.
- From the menu line,
select Edit/Bookmark. You'll be asked to give
the bookmark a name:

- In the box labeled
"Bookmark Name," type a name
that makes sense to you.
- Click OK.
- Now, follow the
instructions for adding a link from your
page to another web page. Use the Open
Page option, and select the page you are
now working on as the page to link to. DO
NOT CLICK OK as soon as you've
identified the link. Instead, type the
name of the bookmark you just created
into the box labeled
"Bookmark."
- Now click OK.
