GIS Day Open House November 17th

What is GIS?
GIS = Geographic Information System

A geographic information system (GIS) is made up of software, hardware, and data as well as people and is used to display and analyze geographic data. Since GIS can be used with any data with a geographic component it can be applied to just about any discipline. The best way to learn what GIS really is would be to come to the open house and see it in action. We will have faculty presenting their usage of GIS in their classes and research.

Where and when?
Environmental Sciences lab in McCook 121 from 2-5.
Please Register.

What to expect?
An informal atmosphere where you can ask questions and see some examples of what GIS is all about. There will be faculty ready to talk about their GIS experiences from Educational Studies, Environmental Sciences, Sociology and more. Academic Computing support staff will be on hand to discuss issues relating to support of projects and availability of data and software. Also don't miss the fun with GPS examples!
