Current Program:

Session 1:  Digital Story Telling: New Tools for a Time Honored Tradition presented by Michael Niemann - March, 25th 12-1pm Rittenberg Lounge

Digital story telling combines the time honored tradition of telling a story with today’s easily available multimedia technology. Although primarily used to record personal stories, the method also holds potential in the academic environment. Through video, sound and pictures, projects take on a multimedia dimension and allow students and faculty to develop rich and exciting materials. Michael Niemann will talk about the digital storytelling project that he is doing with his Global Hartford class. He will discuss the pedagogical benefits and pitfalls associated with such a project.

Session 2:
Putting Student Essays on the Web presented by Dario Euraque - April, 22nd, 12-1pm, Terrace Room B

Dario will discuss the viability of complementing traditional research and term paper assignments in the historical discipline with innovations in student designed and created web page. Its aim is twofold. First, Dario will present the nature, advantages and potential pitfalls in offering student designed web pages as alternatives or complements to research papers. Second, he will present examples of the best and not so good results in this experimental innovation in assignments in the historical discipline that he has carried out in a number of courses during the last two years.
