First Year Technologist
Job Description:
A First Year Technologist is hired directly by a technology group that supports a specific line of business. The technologist will have the opportunity to rotate between projects within or between technology groups. As such, working in tandem with the line, the technologist develops and maintains systems that are integral to the profitability and smooth functioning of that business.
Typically, the First Year Technologist begins his/her career at Bankers Trust by participating in an intensive seven-week training program, the Technologist Development Program (TDP). This program is designed to give a working knowledge of the entire Application Development Life cycle as well as the use and application of BT's current tools, architectures, methods, strategies and environment. It further covers the basic concepts of computer programming including Visual Basic, C, C++ and Java. Supplementary languages might include Perl and scripting techniques, an over-view of Smalltalk and coverage of legacy techniques. The major databases discussed would be Microsoft SQL: Server and Sybase 10/11, with additional discussion of Oracle, DB/2 and non-relational systems. The classroom training culminates in a team project that requires the First Year Technologist to apply newly acquired knowledge to solving
business problems as defined by senior management.
Position Requirements:
1. Undergraduate or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or other related major.
2. Well-honed analytical and problem solving skills.
3.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.4. Database and/or Web development preferred, as is prior summer or part-time
Programming experience.
5. Proven time and project management abilities.
