Jerry Rubin was the co-founder of the Yippies, a undefinable group of pranksters who protested the Vietnam War by staging elaborate, publicity getting demonstrations.   Jerry grew up in Cincinnatti, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnatti.   Like many of the Vietnam era radicals he began his protesting career in the Civil Rights movement, though not in the South.  His very first protest took place in Berkeley, California in 1964.  He walked the picket line to protest against a local grocer who refused to hire blacks.

He and Abbie Hoffman, after founding the Youth International Party (Yippies), organized many dramatic demonstrations, including the "exorcism of the Pentagon" in which he, Hoffman, and others tried to levitate the Pentagon with mental force.   As a Yippie he organized the disastrous protests at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968.  He was as dramatic in the courtroom as any of the "Chicago Seven", and he even brought a toy M-16 rifle to the proceedings.   He played a role in nominated a pig named "Pigasus" for President in 1968 as well.
