The Civil Rights Movement
- In 1955 Martin Luther King Jr. began his quest for equal rights. In
the face of strong opposition from Black militant organizations, racist White political
leaders, and a country filled with segregation Martin Luther King Jr. held true to his
Ghandian principles of non-vilence. |

Religion: Here
are the four individuals I chose as the most influential religious leaders of the
twentieth century. Each may not be what is considered an obvious choice, but each in their
own way, effected the world because of their religious beliefs, and in most cases, their
political activities as well. Beneath each section there are websites that will provide
greater research and learning abilities for each individual. |

Military/Politics- "Churchill
was the century's best example of how individuals can shape history rather than being
shaped by it. The force of his will and his words gave courage to his country and
saved the West. Yet it was also Churchill who, after World War II, discerned the
dangers to come from communist tyranny. Just as he defined the moral issues of the
1930's and 1940's, he defined the great moral challenge that would shape America's role in
the world up to our own time. Totalitarianism was the greatest evil of the 20th
century, and Churchill its most able adversary."

Entertainment: The
individuals in the entertainment industry have a unique place in our society. People
are obsessed with their every move, they influence language, fashion, style, and many
other aspects in society. Although many of these stars seem to influence our
society, there are many people working behind the scenes that many of us have forgotten or
never knew about in the first place. These individuals influence History in
countless ways and must not be disregarded. |

Science:
| Individuals
in science have perhaps impacted civilizations and societies in a historical context
more than individuals in any other field or discipline. The degree and the diversity
of scientific impact on mankind is amazing to even ponder. Scientists such as evolutionary
biologists and paleontologists have already even taken over the field of history on the
subject of primitive human history. What is even more intriguing is that a great
amount of gratitude and emphasis on these scientific figures has been neglected in a
historical context |
