The Trinity Chemical Society hosts several community events each academic year, and participated in a multitude of others. During the spring of the 2006 academic year, the Trinity Chemical Society participated in the Relay for Life-Walk for Cancer. The Realy for Life was an 18 hour walking event that both celbrated Cancer survivors, and raised money to ensure the research in this area may continue at a high leve.
This event, which had a total of 38 participating teams, had hoped to raise approximately $20,000.00 through all participating teams. In the end, the event raised a total of $66,000.00!!! The Trinity Chemical Society, as a team, placed 3rd of all teams with a total pledge of $4500.00, a valiant effort for a very worthy cause.
With 15 participating members in the Relay, the Trinity Chemical Society kept a minimum of two walkers present on the track at all times. There was occasion when up to 12 members were seen walking together at varioius times during the event, making for good participation and group dynamics.
Special thanks go to Jackie McKenna, president of the TCS, for organizing this event for the team, and to Craig Yennie, who was seen walking at least a part of 10 different hours of the 18 total, and who was absent from the track area for only 1 hour (when we found him asleep in the tent). Way to go you two, and way to go team!!!

With many participants, there was a festive beginning, despite the rain that was falling. |
Getting tents set up, then posing beside them was all in the early fun. |
| More than a few folks helped with the tents, and with the walking of course. |
All participants joined in the first lap of the 18 hour event. |
| The many hours of walking begin to show through...a bit. |
Fatigue becomes more prominent, but help from friends keeps everyone moving. |
The joy of participation brings smiles to everyone's faces, even in the dark! |
Spirits remained high throughout the event, as evident with this trio. |
These folks are not going to let a little rain dampen their spirits! |
However, it is possible to wander off course in the dark! |
This lucky group of walkers got to see the sunrise (sort of...it was cloudy) |
The tents served a good purpose for all before being packed away once again. |
All participants were encouraged to join in the final lap of the "Relay for Life" event. The
weather was a bit soggy, but this did not dampen anyones' enthusiasm toward participation. |
A bit more "boggy (both from the rain and the walking)" but still very enthusiastic, the nine remaining team members pose for a photo at the end of the Relay for Life. |
The lighted candles blazing through the night stated the true meaning for this event. Hope for all, and a cure in the near future! It was a great event, and the TCS was happy to have been able to be a part of the goals and aspirations of what the Relay for Life represents!! |
