There are a number of domestic study options included in Trinity’s List of Approved Study Away Programs. This is a great opportunity for students to take a semester or a year to enrich their Trinity College academics with other opportunities that may not be offered on our Hartford campus. Students who have self-designed majors or international students looking to study in another city are all certainly students who would benefit from a domestic study away option. Trinity College has approved programs with many domestic locations, including the American University Washington Semester program; the Duke Marine Laboratory program in Beaufort, North Carolina; the Sea Semester program based in Woods Hole, Massachusetts; the Williams-Mystic program; and the Woods Hole Environmental Science program.
Please see the Guidelines to Study Away for more information on these programs.
Theater and Performing Arts: Students can participate in the Trinity/La Mama Urban Arts program in New York City that is administered in conjunction with the OIP through the Theater and Dance Department.
Students wishing to study for one or two semesters at another U.S. college or university can apply for the Twelve-College Exchange Program (with opportunities to spend a semester or year at Amherst, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Dartmouth, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Vassar, Wellesley, Wesleyan, Wheaton, Williams-Mystic , as well as the O’Neill National Theater Institute in Waterford, Connecticut.)
We also have Domestic Affiliate programs with the ACM Program in Chicago which is a strong option for Urban Studies, Arts and Entrepreneurship. There is also the Washington Semester Program at American University which has a number of tracks to choose from ranging from American Politics to Islamic Studies with Internships in all of their track areas. Bard College offers an International Affairs and Human Rights program is an approved program with placement in an internship at an NGO at their New York City location.
Science students at Trinity College have a number of domestic programs to consider for biology, marine biology, environmental science and the list goes on! Students should consider the Duke program, the SEA Semester Program, the Semester in Environmental Studies program and the Williams-Mystic program (which can be applied to through the 12 College Exchange).
For more information on all of these programs, please make an appointment to speak with Michelle Kollen at the Office of International Programs or email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. For most of the Domestic Programs, students apply directly to the program and can contact them directly for more information. Financial Aid travels to these options although it is a good idea to speak with your Financial Aid Advisor direclty about your own situation.
Studying at a college or university outside of these programs is not considered studying away. Students who choose to do this must voluntarily withdraw from Trinity and apply directly to their institution of choice. Students cannot petition for domestic programs not on Trinity’s approved study away list, and financial aid CANNOT be used for domestic study on a non-approved program.
