As part of the Center for Urban and Global Studies, the Trinity Internship Program provides students with opportunities for self-directed learning through participation in credit-bearing internships at home and abroad. Academic internships give students a means to integrate academic theories and principles with practical work experience, thereby reinforcing and expanding classroom learning while also preparing students for postgraduate employment. By fostering a dynamic interaction between experiential education and the traditional liberal arts curriculum, the Internship Program allows students to pursue their academic interests, to share their talents with community partners, to develop skills and values essential to civic responsibility, and to achieve a broader understanding of the local and global worlds in which they live.
The Internship Office administers the program on behalf of the Curriculum Committee in accordance with faculty guidelines and, when appropriate, makes recommendations to the Committee about program policies and procedures. In support of Trinity’s broad urban/global educational mission through the Center for Urban and Global Studies, the Internship Office: 1) maintains and publicizes a variety of internship placements with local, national and international organizations in many professional fields, including the arts, business and finance, government, engineering, health and social services, law, media, and education; 2) advises, directs and supports students, faculty and organizations seeking to participate in the Internship Program; 3) conducts regular evaluation of students and of placements, and makes adjustments to the program as needed; 4) coordinates activities and services with the Office of International Programs (OIP), the Community Learning Initiative (CLI), academic departments and other offices of the College, to offer a world of urban and global resources to Trinity students.
