The technical assistance component of the Trinity Center for Neighborhoods is provided by United Connecticut Action for Neighborhoods (UCAN). The Director and Associate Director, Alta Lash and Jack Mimnaugh, have provided grass-roots community organizing training for twenty-five years in Connecticut and throughout the country. Director of Organizing of UCAN, Lorenzo Jones works directly with community leaders and residents to create change in Hartford's neighborhoods.
Training is provided on request for staff and leadership of community organizations, other non-profit organizations, governmental entities and for-profit organizations.
Training opportunities include:
- A three month curriculum for staff new to community organizing, offered on a weekly basis.
- An advanced curriculum for organizers with some training.
- Consultation to the Directors of community organizations on staff and leadership development and organizational development.
- Training for Boards of Directors of community organizations.
- Organizational Development training for new or existing non-profit entities.
- Assistance to governmental entitites developing and implementing programs which involve widespread involvement of community residents (e.g. community policing).
- Training of apprentices to UCAN (persons of color interested in the profession of community organizing) through an extensive mentoring and training program.
- Assistance in the development and implementation of conferences of leadership and staff involved in community organizing.
