We are making a documentary film which will reflect on issues of race, economic power, and politics in Hartford during the late 1960s, screening films from 1969 and today with community partners across the city. In January of 2004, we were awarded a three-year grant from the Rockefeller Foundation for this work. In addition to the film, we also plan to create a full public access archive containing interviews and other materials. We are also working on related exhibits and programs in collaboration with the Connecticut Historical Society.
Our community partners in this project are the Broad-Park Development Corporation, the Community Renewal Team, Create Change Organization, the Greater Hartford NAACP, the Hartford Public Library, Shiloh Baptist Church, the Southern Arsenal Neighborhood Development Corporation (SAND), Walk in the Light Ministries, and our film studio partner, Motion, Inc. Our individual partners include Deborah Johnson, Romulo Samaniego, Nancy Shapiro, Amy Sailor, Rev. King Hayes, Karen Lewis, John Wilson, and Archibishop Louella Tate.
