Elinor Jacobson came to Trinity College as Director of Community Service in 1996, helping students develop extra-curricular projects with community organizations. In addition, she provided assistance to faculty seeking to engage their classes with experiences in Hartford, which led to the creation of her current position as Associate Director of Urban Academic Engagements. In this capacity she helps to extend the learning experience beyond the classroom by making use of the educational and research opportunities in Hartford and Greater Hartford. Elly has lived and worked in Hartford for 35 years and is an active participant in the Hartford community, serving on boards of several community-based organizations, on the grant-making panels of two Hartford-based foundations, and as the immediate past vice-chairman of the city’s planning and zoning commission. Prior to coming to Trinity College, she worked in local and state government, serving as Deputy Commissioner of Health for the State of Connecticut. Elly has an undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Hartford.
