CLI Final project presentations and related year-end events

Trinity students who did a research project on school choice with Jack Dougherty (Educational Studies), presented their research to the School Choice Committee of the Hartford Board of Education on April 25, 2007.

English majors in Cindy Butos’ Senior Seminar have completed a year-long project entitled 50 Lives for 50 Years. This was a collaborative project with Avery Heights (a senior retirement complex), and a photography class at the University of Hartford. The book, entitled 50 Lives for 50 Years, presents photos and stories honoring the experiences and contributions of fifty individuals who have been an integral part of Avery Heights over the past five decades. Trinity students interviewed the residents and wrote their stories. A celebratory event took place at Avery Heights on April 26, 2007.

Students in Latinos in Education, taught by Professor Andrea Dyrness, presented their research findings at Mi Casa Community Center on April 26, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. The Center is at 590 Park St. in Hartford. The presentation was about the experiences of migration, and the educational values and aspirations of members of Hartford’s Latino community.

Students in Naogan Ma's Community Learning Colloquium hosted a performance/fundraiser entitled Tributes: Creating the Beloved Community, on April 30, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Vernon Social Center. There was a video on the history of the Tributes initiative, a special recognition and thank you to Alain Lopez '05 and short scenes from Tributes in process were shown. _________________________________________________________________________

Students from Kathy Gersten’s Education Through Movement class joined the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from the Parkville Community School to present their performance project for the semester. The event was on May 2, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Sports Center hockey rink.

The final project/performance for Eric Galm’s class Topics in World Music: Music of Latin America and the Caribbean, was an outdoor festival open to the community on May 5, 2007 from 12 noon to 4:00 in front of the Austin Arts Center (rain location Vernon Social Center). The event featured performances by area musicians Tierra Mestiza and the Alturas Duo, along with the Trinity Samba Ensemble. Students from the class set up tables that demonstrated their projects with the local musicians.
