The Field Guide

The Hartford Primer & Field Guide was produced for Trinity College faculty and students as an introductory text on the major issues facing the city of Hartford and the region.  Since its original release in 2001, it has been used in dozens of classes at the College and is the most-cited source appearing in student research on local topics. 

field guideThe Field Guide has also found many readers beyone the campus.  In recent years, copies have been requested by politicians and government officials, local non-profit organizations, church groups, community activists and staff the Hartford Courant, the Hartford Advocate and the Hartford News.  The Field Guide had also been used in classes at the University of Connecticut, the University of Hartford and Saint Joseph's.

The 1st edition of the Field guide was produced over the summer of 2001 by Ivan Kuzyk, Director of the Cities Data Center at Trinity College, and three Trinity undergraduates: Antonio DePina, Karen Roy and Douglas Oh.  Trinity students Nneka Lundy, Jackie Kim, Justin Kuehn and Eugene Hsu contributed to the preparation of the 2nd edition of the Guide, published in Fall 2003.   

The Hartford Primer & Field Guide provides a sysnopsis of the major issues confronting the city of Hartford.  The book features the latest data and commentary on Hartford's suburbs, people, neighborhoods, the local economy, education, health, housing, crime, politics and poverty.
