Living as productive citizens in today’s global community requires having meaningful knowledge of its diverse cultures, people, and ways of being. Trinity has committed itself to building such understanding through a variety of programs and opportunities with an international focus.
Study away and other global study opportunities are integral parts of the liberal arts learning process. With a network of global learning sites in key cities around the world, including its long-standing program at the Trinity campus in Rome, as well as cooperative programs in locations from Trinidad to Santiago to Capetown, Trinity ranks nationally among liberal arts colleges in the number of students who study abroad. Courses are thematically related to the public culture and urban environment of each learning site, and typically include field internships or research projects designed to provide hands-on exploration of a culture, its environment and related issues.
Other popular programs include studies in Modern Languages and Literature, in which students develop linguistic skills while gaining appreciation of foreign cultures, or Trinity’s International Studies Program, in which societies and cultures in different parts of the world are analyzed and compared, and capped with a senior research project that may be as varied as producing a video documentary or curating an art show.
