TECHNOS JAPAN TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FACULTY AND

ADMINISTRATORS

Time: duration of two weeks in early June, 2008

Projected Tour Date: 5/31-6/13 (subject to change)

Application deadline: January 28, 2008

The application and selection process for this travel opportunity has concluded for 2008.

To Trinity Faculty and Administrators:

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity available for the faculty and administrators of the College, made possible by the College’s affiliation with the Tanaka Ikueikai Educational Trust.  One faculty or one administrator and two students are invited for a two-week trip to Japan to participate in Technos International Week held in Tokyo in June, 2008.

Technos International Week is an event organized by Technos International College of Japan.  Its goal is to promote international exchange and understanding between the international guests and the members of the host institution, as well as to offer the guest group the opportunity to experience and appreciate Japanese life and culture.  Trinity College is one of 10 colleges and universities from around the world to participate.

The costs of domestic transportation, accommodation, and group meals in Japan will be covered by the Tanaka Ikueikai Educational Trust.

International travel expenses and other associated costs such as travel insurance, taxes, and fees outside Japan will be paid by Trinity College.

Trinity Faculty or Administrators with full-time appointments on a continuing basis, who have a genuine interest in Japan, but are not Japan specialists, and who have had little or no previous exposure to Japan, are eligible to apply.  Our goal for this opportunity is to help promote and enrich the presence of Japanese Studies at Trinity College.  It is expected that the successful applicant will enhance the presence of Japanese Studies at Trinity in some way in the year following the trip. In the past, the trip experiences resulted in a photo exhibit, a public lecture and a website, all focusing on some aspect of Japanese society and culture.  There may be many other creative ways in which the goal can be met. There is no official form of application. In your letter of application, please outline your interest in this opportunity and then describe in detail how you envision achieving the goal of this opportunity and benefiting the Trinity community in general.

Applications should be submitted to Rieko Wagoner, Department of Modern Languages & Literature, rieko.wagoner@trincoll.edu by Monday, January 28, 2008.  E-mail application is acceptable. We will begin the selection process immediately following the deadline. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the members of the selection committee, Xiangming Chen, Takunari Miyazaki, Jonathan Elukin, and Rieko Wagoner.
