Participant Stories

Participants and leaders alike finish the Quest program having learned something about themselves and their peers. Most have fond memories of the few weeks spent in the wilderness, some of which are shared below.

Mina Aiken"All I need every once in a while is a shift in perspective. Fourteen days in the mountains with people I barely knew, without all the components of our fast-paced lives,  brought me back to a simpler point of view. I had eyes only for the beautiful scenery, an open mind to the dynanimity of the people around me, and energy that needed to be channeled into nothing but strenuous hikes, canoe trips and portages. Every Quest participant comes away from the experience knowing what's important in life."

Lee Pollard"The ability to reflect and clear my mind was priceless. The intense physical strain that came with the program was vital in helping me become a better person. I feel I have become more open-minded, more aware and more appreciative of everything I have and everything around me. Not only was this program insightful, but it was also tons of fun!"

Michael Magdelinskas-Vazquez"Though it may seem unlikely, that single two week event was able to alter aspects of my life that took 18 years to craft; everyone close to me has noticed a reined sense of self. Furthermore, by being paired with such experienced and excellent leaders, I was compelled to involve myself in activities I would have originally shied away from...
I know if Quest hadn't happened, my college experience would be devoid of some of the amazing thing I am currently experiencing."

Julia Svedova"If you had asked me before [solo], I would not have believed that I could stay 48 hours without food or any human company. But I did. I believe that human beings mentally grow every time they face a difficult situation. Quest enriched me so much in those two weeks that I felt like a different person when I came back. It also helped to understand American culture better so I was quite prepared to deal with all the changes that occurred. If I could, I would persuade every freshman to go through the Quest experience."
