For students interested in a career in the health professions, Trinity College offers opportunities not normally found at other small liberal arts college in New England. There are 3 world-class health-care institutions within a 10 minute walk from campus and academic and extra-curricular opportunities that can only be found in an urban setting.
Trinity students can be found at health professional schools throughout the country: University of Connecticut, Georgetown, University of Arizona, New York University, Columbia, Tufts, Albert Einstein, and University of California at San Francisco to name a few. The number of students that matriculate to medical schools and other health profession schools (dental school, veterinary school, etc.) varies from year to year and the ability to accurately reflect the success of Trinity College graduates being accepted to these schools is dependent on many variables. As a result, it is very difficult to develop any sort of useful statistical analysis of trends in applications and acceptances. For a number of reasons, these numbers tend to be overly simplistic.
Using data collected from the Association of American Medical Colleges, the following table shows the number of students with an undergraduate degree from Trinity College that applied to medical school and a comparison between the yearly acceptance rates for Trinity applicants and the national average. The data contained in the acceptance rates is not corrected for repeated applications year-to-year. As can be seen, the acceptance rate of Trinity students typically exceeds the national average.

Students who have a strong academic record (overall 3.5 GPA or better; 3.35 science GPA or better), score well (30 or above) on the MCAT, and take full advantage of the above mentioned advantages of Trinity’s urban location to gain exposure to the medical field, the varied racial and cultural makeup of the community, and the numerous service opportunities available are admitted at a rate close to 100%. During the past 8 years, 39% of medical school applicants evaluated as either Outstanding or Superior Candidates by the Healthcare Professions Advising Committee, and acceptance rates for these individuals are as follows: Superior Rating (20/21) = 95%; Outstanding Rating - 21/25 = 84%; Combined - 41/46 = 89%.
