In the fall of 1969, 146 years after the founding of the College, Trinity College accepted its first class of women. One hundred and six women matriculated as “freshwomen.”
Over the past 40 years, women have made significant impacts on all areas of the life of the College through the expansion of women’s presence in the highest arenas of academic achievement at the College; the emergence of a vibrant women’s athletic culture; and the transformation of much of the College’s social culture. At the same time, many challenges remain for women at the College, and for students in general.
Throughout the 2009-2010 academic year, Trinity College will look at the whole range of implications of 40 years of coeducation at Trinity College—academically, socially, and culturally.
