Restoration and Renovation

Trinity College's historic Long Walk buildings undergo restoration and renovation.

In the summer of 2005, workers making routine repairs to Trinity's famed Long Walk buildings discovered that the slate roofs and stonework around the dormer windows were in need of extensive restoration. Temporary repairs carried out over the next few months stabilized the buildings and gave College officials and restoration experts time to explore the full extent of the situation. The result is an impending complete overhaul of the roofs, dormers, living, and learning spaces. This historic restoration and renovation of Trinity's Long Walk buildings—to upgrade dorm rooms, offices, classrooms and their furnishings, to replace the Long Walk pathway itself, and to provide new drainage and landscaping—will have a total cost of $32.9 million. Of this amount, $7.5 million or more will need to come from the philanthropic support of alumni, parents, and friends; the balance will come from the College's own financing sources.
