Koeppel Community Sports Center's Ice Is Back!!!

The Koeppel Community Sports Center's ice is back and ready for another season of Men's and Women's Varsity Ice Hockey and community programming for Hartford area students and families.

After a successful inaugural season of Learn to Skate (LTS) programming for Hartford Public School students as part of their regular school physical education programs and local area residents in after school/weekend programs, the KCSC is pleased to introduce the first year of the Bantam Skating School. The Bantam Skating School, a registered member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFS), will be the home of our Learn to Skate program and the foundation for our figure skating programs at the KCSC.

Ice Hockey instruction will be offered this season by way of a Cross-Ice Program designed to teach fundamentals in a fun and challenging environment. The KCSC is pleased to introduce a twenty week Learn to Play Hockey (LTPH) program that will skate on Saturdays and Sundays beginning in November. The Bantam Skating Club is a registered USA Hockey Association that will be the foundation for future hockey programs at the KCSC.

In addition to the LTPH program, the KCSC is also looking to form Men's League teams for a competitive adult league to play week nights and weekends from September through March, 2008. The Trinity Men's League, a registered USA Hockey Association, will follow USA Hockey Rules and Regulations and would require each team or player to be registered through USA Hockey to participate.

The KCSC is pleased to team up with the Connecticut Speedskating Association (CSA) and offer a pilot program to introduce speedskating to our Hartford area residents. This program will begin on Saturday September 22, 2007 at 9:15am and continue weekly for the entire season. While some type of prior skating experience is encouraged, all are welcome to try this unique and challenging sport. More information and pricing can be found at the rink.

Finally, the KCSC is teaming up with the Connecticut Chasers and forming a program for special needs athletes to participate on a team for the developmentally challenged. Run by former President of the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress Debra McAlenney, the Connecticut Chasers continue the efforts of former Hartford Whaler Kelly Chase in offering people with disabilities the opportunity to learn how to skate and play hockey. The Chasers are members of USA Hockey and part of two larger groups called the Heart League - Special Hockey International and the American Special Hockey Association.
