What: Gary Dorrien, Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary and Professor of Religion at Columbia University, will give a lecture entitled, “Social Ethics for Social Justice: Economy, Race, and Progressive Christianity.” Rev. Dorrien is the Paul E. Raether Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at Trinity. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the event in the Wean Terrace Rooms at Mather Hall.

Background:
Rev. Gary Dorrien is the Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary and Professor of Religion at Columbia University. An Episcopal priest, he was previously the Parfet Distinguished Professor at Kalamazoo College.
Rev. Dorrien has a long record of involvement in social justice and anti-war organizations. His recent book, Imperial Designs, grew out of his extensive lecturing against the United States’ invasion and occupation of Iraq. His major work, Social Ethics in
the Making, will be published by Blackwell in November 2008,
and he is currently completing a book titled Economy, Difference, and Empire.
