Welcome to  Recycling at Trinity
Trinity Bantams Recycle
This section of the website provides information about recycling in the residence halls.
There are two facts that everyone should know about Recycling at Trinity:
  1. Recyclable items are collected in CLEAR bags, while trash is collected in BLACK bags.
  2. Paper must be collected separately from bottles and cans; these items cannot be mixed together.

What Can Be Recycled: Bottles & Cans
  • ALL glass and aluminum containers
  • Containers made of #1 or #2 plastics
  • Aerosol cans

Please remove tops on plastic bottles, these are not recyclable!

Do Not Place bottles and cans in paper recycling bins

Do Not try to recycle bottles with liquid in them

Soup cans may be recycled if they are made of steel; please rinse them out

What Can Be Recycled: Paper, newsprint, & cardboard

Paper must be separated from bottles & cans in order to be recycled

  • White Office Paper (it can have printing on it)
  • Colored Paper
  • Envelopes (without clear windows)
  • Post-It notes
  • Index cards
  • Card Stock -heavier paper
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Non-corrugated cardboard (ex. pasta, shoe or cereal boxes)

NO Envelopes with clear windows

NO pizza boxes! this cardboard is contaminated with grease

NO glossy paper

Paper recycling is fairly complicated because the City of Hartford does not have the ability to sort paper.  Office paper must be separated from glossy paper. Currently, glossy paper can only be recycled in the Office of Community Service and Civic Engagement.

If you are looking to recycle a piece of paper, you must find a bin that is labeled “RECYCLE OFFICE PAPER ONLY.”  Paper recycling is located in Academic and Office buildings. These areas are targeted due to the large volume of paper used there.

Most students spend time in academic buildings 5 days of the week. Students can collect recyclable paper in a small bin in their rooms and then bring it to Mather or the Library to ensure that the paper is recycled properly.

It is important to note that if paper is improperly placed into bottle & can recycling bins it will not get recycled!
