Office of Campus Life
The Connecticut Culinary Institute

The lobbyThe Connecticut Culinary Institute (CCI) is a new, off-campus housing option available to Trinity seniors, juniors, and sophomores. It was formerly a hotel and conference center, but is now going to house the Connecticut Culinary Institute and serve as their Hartford campus. The Institute has generously offered us the use of a designated section of rooms to house our students. The facility is 1.4 miles away from campus on the corner of Farmington Avenue and Sigourney Street.

The dormitory rooms at the CCI will be double occupancy, and each room has its own bathroom, along with cable access, and wireless internet access. The dorm rooms are equipped with desks and chairs, closet space, and a television set housed in a cabinet with drawers.

Dining Room

The CCI offers meals in the main dining hall run by the student chefs of the culinary institute. The College will structure a meal plan that will allow Trinity students residing at the CCI to take meals at the Institute.

Recreational Facilities

loungeThe former Hastings hotel was a luxury hotel built by Aetna to accommodate corporate guests and executive training programs. Each floor has two spacious lounges with a pool table and/or other recreational activities. The lavish common areas include an indoor basketball court, a 3,500 square-foot-fitness center, a restaurant, and additional spaces on the first few levels of the building. The CCI provides unique opportunities for social engagement in the dining hall, over meals, in a game of basketball, or joint activities and outings. The convenient location is within walking distance of Union Place and the Mark Twain House, and also provides easy access to the restaurants on Farmington Avenue and West Hartford Center. It can also be an advantage for students planning to do internships, as it is walking distance to many of the internship locations in Hartford.

Transportation and Parking

There is limited parking space at the facility, so if students desire parking at the CCI, they will need to make individual arrangements with the CCI.  Other students bringing cars will have areas for parking on campus. Since the travel route to and from the CCI goes past Pope Park and has sidewalks along most of it, using a bike to travel back and forth is also suggested as a healthy alternative. The Trinity U-Pass can also be used to take public transportation from the CCI to most locations in the city, or for easy access to West Hartford Center or the restaurants on Farmington Avenue.

Security

The Institute has 24-hour security personnel on the premises to ensure a safe and secure living and learning environment for all students and staff at the CCI. They will be responsible for upholding the residential policies of the Institute – policies that the Trinity students living at the CCI will also need to adhere to. Trinity's Campus Safety and CCI personnel will work as partners and be in regular radio contact. In addition, Trinity’s Campus Safety personnel will patrol the CCI facility on a daily basis, and handle emergencies and safety issues involving Trinity students at the CCI.

Residential Policies

Since Trinity College students will, in effect, be guests in the CCI facility, students choosing this option must abide by the rules and policies of the Institute, as well as the residential guidelines of Trinity College. There will be one or two residential staff members (RAs) living with the students to  help advise and support them. Trinity's area coordinator, who is a professional staff member, will oversee the dorm facility. If you have any questions regarding this housing option, please contact the office of campus life at susan.salisbury@trincoll.edu or (860) 297-2305.

The CCI is willing to give tours of the facility, with advance notice, to students and parents who are considering this housing option. To arrange a tour, please contact Brooke Baran '00 of the CCI at (203) 887-6121.
