Learn to Skate Program

Bantam Skating School

As of September 1, 2007, the Koeppel Community Sports Center at Trinity College officially became a member of the United States Figure Skating (USFS) Basic Skills Program.  The Albert Creighton Williams '64 Rink is home to the “Bantam Skating School,” our Basic Skills Program. The Learn to Skate program will no longer use the Ice Skating Institute’s (ISI) Alpha, Beta, etc. levels to teach our skaters.  Instead, the Bantam Skating School will include, as part of the Learn to Skate program, figure skating and hockey skating instruction for our students as part of our new programming under the USFS guidelines.

This means your child will now be a part of the national governing body of ice skating in the United States, whose main concern is to provide a consistent and progressive method of teaching the fundamentals skills of ice skating for a lifetime of fun and enjoyment.  As part of this program, children will be able to convert their skills from their current ISI level to their corresponding USFS level which will enable them to continue

on and master the skills of their next level without starting over.  To minimize confusion as skaters change from our old ISI program to our new USFS program, see the conversion chart below.  Please note, since ISI and USFS are two different programs, some skaters will have missed learning an element or two required in USFS, while others will have previously learned an element which is in their current USFS level.  Coaches will be available during free time to assist skaters needing a little extra help.
