Trinity Plaza Demolition
It was a great day for Trinity, SINA, and the city of Hartford as the start of the Trinity Plaza demolition marked the first step toward completion of the new SINA/Trinity College Community Sports Complex (CSC). Campus and community leaders gathered on the morning of Friday, August 6, 2004, to celebrate the first blow. Trinity President James F. Jones, Jr. had the honor of wielding the excavator's claw to start the process of taking down the dilapidated Trinity Plaza. The demolition will clear the way for site preparation and eventual construction of the CSC. The groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for Saturday, November 6, 2004. Within a week of the ceremonial start, New England Yankee Construction, the company contracted for the demolition, had already taken down half of Trinity Plaza, carefully sorting the material removed from the old structure so that it can be sold or recycled.

After a little more than two weeks, all that remains of Trinity Plaza is debris such as this pile of rusty, twisted scrap iron. |
