Breaking New Ground

“Breaking New Ground,” a celebration of the planned SINA/Trinity Community Sports Complex, was held during Homecoming weekend on Saturday, November 6, at 11 a.m. at the project site on New Britain Avenue. The College/Community event featured Willie O’Ree, who broke new ground and the color barrier in 1958 by becoming the first black player in the National Hockey League. He now serves as the Director of Youth Development for the NHL Diversity Task Force. Campus and community leaders from Trinity, SINA, and Hartford were present at the celebration, including Trinity President Jimmy Jones, Lt. Governor Kevin Sullivan ’71, Mayor Eddie Perez ’96, SINA Executive Director Luis Caban, and Hyacinth Yennie P ’02, ’05, President of the Maple Avenue Neighborhood Revitalization Zone.
