Koeppel Community Sports Center Dedication Fun for All!

On Sunday February 11, alumni, parents, community leaders, and neighbors came to dedicate the Koeppel Community Sports Center. In his remarks, President James F. Jones, Jr., thanked the many leaders who worked over four decades toward this day. Joining President Jones were members of the Koeppel family, Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez '96, SINA Executive Director Luis Caban, community leader and Trinity parent Hyacinth Yennie P'02, '05, Trustee Mary Penniman Moran '76, Athletic Director Rick Hazelton, coaches John Dunham and Andy McPhee, members of the men's and women's hockey teams, hundreds of children from area schools and the Boys and Girls Club, and other friends of the College. Willie O'Ree, Director of Youth Development for NHL Diversity, was also present, making good the promise he made over two years ago at the Ice Breaking Ceremony to return when the facility was finished.
The gathering acknowledged the Koeppel family's generous keystone gift to name the facility in honor of the late Alfred J. Koeppel '54, a devoted son of Trinity and former Chair of the Board of Trustees. Alfred's wife, Ruth, his children, Caleb, class of 1978, David, class of 1980, and Sarah, class of 1983, and nine of his grandchildren, were all present for the event. In addition to the formal dedication, there was a luncheon, alumni hockey game, and open skate.
