Benefits to the Community
- Extends the Learning Corridor and provides space for constructive and focused programming for Hartford children.
- Promotes the physical and mental well being of local children and families through recreational opportunities, peer/family supports, and mentoring and leadership development activities.
- Exposes neighborhood children to what for many is a relatively new sport, skating, thereby enhancing self confidence and promoting healthy growth and development.
- Increases children’s exposure to, and likelihood of attending, college through Learn-to-skate and youth hockey programs that are linked with academic tutoring (similar to SquashWise).
- Increases programming space and capacity for youth groups and programs such as the Boys & Girls Club at the Trinity College Thomas and Ann Johnson Building, the Dream Camp, the National Youth Sports Camp, the Adolescent Mentoring Program, and the Vision Academic Mentoring Program.
- Introduces a new, local venue for cultural events, conferences, conventions, fairs (summer camp, school fairs, career fairs) for the community.
- Fortifies community life by offering space for family gatherings, organizational meetings, and program planning.
- Catalyzes economic development for the Broad Street and New Britain Avenue neighborhood.
