MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS

Accidentals

The Accidentals were founded in 1993 as an all-male Accapella singing group. Their repertoire includes classis rock, R&B, Barbershop, Jazz and Pop. The Accidentals pride themselves on high quality original arrangments and musicality. The group has rehearsals five days a week with many performances throughout the year both on and off campus. Auditions are always held yearly immediately following the freshmen show, which usually occurs within the first week of school. The Accidentals are always looking for new talented singers.

The Chapel Singers

The Chapel Singers are an SATB chamber-sized choral ensemble of approximately twenty (20) students. Admission to the group is by consultation and audition with John Rose, director, and the organization’s student president. Some singing experience is desirable but a strong interest and commitment are even more important deciding factors. Chapel Singers perform regularly at services in the chapel and also perform at special events on and off campus. Their repertoire is rich and varied and takes advantage of the chapel’s excellent and unique acoustical properties and its magnificent pipe organ. Chapel Singers are paid a modest stipend for their services at the end of each term. For additional information, contact John Rose, ext. 2014.

The Dischords

The Dischords are Trinity’s newest co-ed a cappella group, which has been hoppin’ and boppin’ since 2005. Their repertoire of original and unique arrangements are constantly growing.  They sing a wide variety of music ranging from old classics to the soulful one-hit wonders of the 80’s to contemporary hits of today and tomorrow. Their current cast of characters hails from both sides of the country (and the middle), as well as both shores of the Pacific Ocean.

The Dischords hold auditions every fall at the freshman concert and occasionally at the beginning of the spring semester. They pride themselves in having a grande old time making music and memories together and are always looking for new talent to join the fun. Please see our website for more information.

Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir was founded on an inspiration in the fall of 1988. It is a coed singing group, which performs both on campus and in various community events throughout the school year. The choir sponsors two (2) benefit concerts per year for community service organizations in the Greater Hartford area. The approximately twenty (20) member choir rehearses once a week and performs a wide variety of traditional and contemporary gospel music. All are invited to participate, the only requirement being a desire to sing and praise the Lord to the best of one’s ability.

Trinity College Pipes and Drums

The Trinity Pipes & Drums was first established in 1954 by Dr. Henry G. Hood, Professor of History.  The band assembled in the parking lot outside of the Ferris Athletic Center, purported to be one of the best spots acoustically on campus.  This first incarnation of the band ended in 1963.  In 1996, a charismatic freshman entered campus and dreamed a dream.  James MacRae Bairde’s (‘00) single minded devotion and enthusiasm for the band shepherded its’ revival and re-outfitting.  The band is now enjoying its 10th year of operation and looks forward to many years of continued service to the college and the community.

The Quirks

The Quirks are Trinity’s newest all-female a capella group.  Founded by two students in 2003 as their Tutorial College project, today the group consists of 14 members.  The Quirks’ repertoire includes close harmony arrangements of a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, rock, R&B, and pop (Please refer to our site for our current repertoire.)  The group rehearses four to five times a week and gives several performances throughout the school year.  The Quirks hold auditions every Fall after the Freshman Concert and occasionally at the start of the Spring Semester.  All female students are encouraged to try out for the Quirks at these times.

Trinity Pipes

The Trinity Pipes are a small, coed singing group founded in 1938 by four men from St. Anthony Hall. The Pipes are open, by audition, to any undergraduate at Trinity. The group enjoys singing a wide variety of music from 1940s close harmony to modern pop and rock arrangements. The Pipes variety of versatility and unique use of instruments such as guitar, string bass, and flute, distinguish them from other groups. The group has toured extensively. Auditions are held early each fall to replace members who have graduated, and anyone with musical interest who wants a real opportunity for personal input and good fellowship is encouraged to try out.

Trinitones

The Trinitones are Trinity's first all-female vocal group. The Trinitones sing a cappella music in close harmony, in styles ranging from jazzy 1920's music to current popular songs.  Since the formation of the group in 1987, the Trinitones have performed for a variety of alumni, community, and college events.  Although the group's size varies, there are now eleven full-time members who meet four to five times a week to rehearse. Once a year, in the fall, the Trinitones hold auditions for all interested undergraduate women. All women who love to sing in any musical style are encouraged to audition.
