Trinity Zen welcomes students and community members to learn and practice in the Zen tradition of Buddhism. This centuries-old form of meditation is both simple and profound. Founded in 1997, the Trinity Zen community meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Crypt Chapel, located downstairs in the Chapel.
The practice consists of five minutes of group chanting, 30 minutes of Zen sitting meditation, a short reading and refreshments. Newcomers should arrive at 6:30 p.m. for instruction and orientation and should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. The Monday night meeting follows the same schedule; however, meditation instruction is not offered on Mondays.
In addition to weekly practice, Trinity Zen also sponsors one-day retreats and occasional special events. The Trinity Zen group serves as an extension of the New Haven Zen Center.
