Lisa Kassow, Hillel director

Lisa Pleskow Kassow lived in Jerusalem, Israel from 1978-1990, where she was an award-winning photojournalist. Before becoming Trinity‚Äôs full-time Hillel director in 2001, Kassow worked at the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center (JCC) in West Hartford, CT.  

During her tenure at the JCC, Kassow directed adult education and later assumed the post of director of arts, culture, and education. Kassow is the founder and former director of the Hartford Jewish Film Festival, a program that Trinity co- sponsored for many years.

Kassow holds a BFA in art from Carnegie-Mellon University and is a graduate of the Beit Midrash program in West Hartford, CT. She was the recipient of the 2008 Jewish Vision Award of the Charter Oak Cultural Center in recognition of her involvement and work in the Greater Hartford Jewish community. E-mail:


Kate Sapirstein, Hillel Engagement and Program Coordinator

Kate Sapirstein received her B.A. in Classics and History from Brown University in 2012. While at Brown, Kate was active in Hillel, serving as the Grinspoon-MZ Foundation Israel Advocacy Intern as well as the Events Coordinator for Brown Students for Israel. Kate pursued her interest in Jewish Studies by writing a History honors thesis on the Holocaust, a work that earned her departmental honors from the Brown History department.

Prior to joining the Trinity College Hillel staff, Kate was a Research Associate for the American Civil Liberties Union in Boston, MA. Obsessed with hummus and ancient history, Kate has traveled to Israel many times and has even driven through the Negev Desert on several occasions. In her spare time, Kate enjoys playing with her dog, hiking, eating mounds of pasta, and going to concerts.
