Trinity College Hillel
Community Service and Internships

The Jewish concept of tikkun olam (helping the world) is an important part of the mission of Trinity College Hillel.

Trinity College was one of eight schools nationwide selected to have a MAZON intern. MAZON- the Jewish Response to Hunger- was an organization founded in the 1985 wake of the Ethiopia famine and works every year to ensure better living ocnditions around the world. With the MAZON  student intern Hillel members made mishloach manot purim gifts for elderly members of the Hartford Jewish community at the Hebrew Home and Hospital. In addition, Hillel students bring soup donated by Chartwells Food Services to nearby homeless shelter Mercy House in downtown Hartford at the end of every week. The MAZON student intern also serves as the Hillel representative to the FACES board, a committee designed by the Community Service Office to bring together members from each group on campus performing community service. Students also participate in other tzedek projects with the Jewish Campus Service Corps fellow including making New Years cards for elderly Jews in West Hartford and collecting childrens books that were then donated to the Greater Hartford Literacy Coalition.

Many outside volunteer opportunities are in place for students throughout the Greater Hartford Jewish community and beyond, such as the ongoing volunteer program with the Hebrew Home and Hospital, a facility for senior citizens on the Jewish Community Center campus in West Hartford.

Hillel is also involved with Habitat Haverim, the Jewish version of Habitat for Humanity which meets on Sundays. Students have the opportunity to put their positive energy to work, helping to build homes for low income families in the Hartford area. For more information about these volunteer opportunities, please contact Miriam Zichlin '06, VP for Social Action.
