To Trinity and Beyond!!
1. If you live on campus the first few days are about getting your
apartment phone to work and making sure you have your identification
code and card as well as
your parking sticker.
2. Meet frequently with Lisa and have her give you a tour of the
important places on campus.
3. Make sure you have your Trinity password and ID number for your
computer so that you can post on the Exchange (message boards) and
send e-mails to new students.
4. Grab lunch with Professor Ron Kiener, head of the Jewish Studies
Program. Not only is he a great resource and fantastic friend to Hillel-
he is also a very cool and fun guy to know.
5. Introduce yourself to Amy Howard, Director of Residence Life,
and to the staff of Student Activities- located in Mather.
6. Call Debbie Cook and introduce yourself as the new Hillel fellow.
She’s an important person to know early on since you’ll need tabling space
for the High Holidays.
*** Take a look through www.trincoll.edu, especially at Trinity A-Z.
This portal leads you to all the names and locations of important people
and campus partners. Every student group has a page as does every office.
Welcome to Hartford
Movies! Movies! Movies! If you like going to movies there are a bunch
of great places right around here.
Cinestudio- Located on campus! Cinestudio is listed in gray on
www.movietickets.com and is located on campus in the Chemistry
building. Cinestudio gets most wide release and art house movies
a few weeks/a month after they are in the theater. This past year
I saw Garden State, Before Sunset, Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle,
and Kinsey all at Cinestudio. There is also a large movie theater located
on New Park Avenue less than a ten minute drive from campus.
Art! The Wadsworth Athenaeum and Bushnell Theater both have great
exhibits and shows. Both are located in downtown Hartford and there
is free parking right across the street. Most Broadway national tours
come through the Bushnell Theater and you can get pretty cheap tickets
at their box office.
Bars! Downtown Hartford has some great bars including:
Black Eyed Sally’s, The Big Easy, The Tap Café, and Pig’s Eye Pub.
It is easy to call a cab and have them take you to these nighttime
hot stops- they’re located about five minutes from campus. A lot of
these bars have live music and bargain nights. I suggest checking http://www.citysearch.com/ to find a bar that’s best for you!
Food! There are some great restaurants in both Hartford and
West Hartford. I got Thai food very often from East West Grill-
a restaurant on New Park Avenue.
ASK STUDENTS where they eat out! They’ll have great suggestions,
as will Lisa!
Restaurants to check out are:
Hartford: Hot Tomato, Steam City Brewery, and Trumbull Kitchen
West Hartford: The Elbow Room, Restaurant Bricco, Cosi
For ice cream try A.C. Petersen’s on Park St in West Hartford.
