The Office of Campus Life makes all room assignments. When students are ill or disabled in any way, the Trinity College Health Center may be asked to assess the nature and severity of the illness or disability and recommend (temporary or permanent) special housing accommodations. The Health Center may choose to recommend single rooms or special room assignments only upon adequate documentation of absolute medical necessity (see Medical Housing form below).
Procedure:
A student seeking a recommendation from the Health Center for a special room assignment for medical reasons must bring or have sent a report from his/her own primary care physician documenting the medical history and outlook for recovery. A simple request from a physician is insufficient to provide special accommodations. The Health Center may request additional consultation prior to making any recommendation. The Director of the Health Center agrees that a special room assignment is warranted, the following will occur:
- An assessment of necessity will be made
- A priority category assigned
- A formal recommendation will be filed with the Office of Campus Life
The Categories of priority are as follows:
Priority 1 - such an assignment is deemed essential to health and well being
Priority 2 - such an assignment is deemed helpful in maintaining health and well being
Priority 3 - such and assignment is deemed a simple aid in maintaining health
Upon receipt of this recommendation, the Office of Campus Life will make a determination of whether or not the suggested medical accommodation will be granted to the student. This decision is based upon the availability of space and the needs of the student and the College.
