First-Year Orientation
Preliminary Schedule

Students will receive a complete Orientation schedule when they arrive at Check-In on August 30. The schedule shown below is subject to minor changes.


Thursday, August 30th

CHECK-IN, 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Life Sciences Center
Students must plan on approximately 45 minutes to complete the check-in process.

BUFFET LUNCHEON, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Washington Dining Room, Mather Hall
Luncheon for students and their families.

CONVOCATION, 2:00 p.m., Main Quad
This Welcome to the Class of 2011 marks the beginning of the College's 184th academic year.

SETTLING IN, 4:00-4:30 p.m.
Students will settle in and say goodbye to their families. Orientation Leaders, Resident Assistants (RAs), and First-Year Mentors will be on hand to assist students.

FIRST MEETING OF ORIENTATION GROUPS, 4:30-6:00 p.m.
First-Year students will assemble with their assigned groups and meet with their upperclass Orientation Leaders.

ALL-CLASS BARBECUE, 6:00 p.m., Main Quad

"IN THE DARK," 7:00-8:00 p.m., Koeppel CSC

RESIDENCE HALL MEETINGS, 8:45-9:45 p.m.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL, 9:45 p.m., Cave Patio

 

Friday, August 31st

BREAKFAST, 8:00 a.m., Washington Dining Room, Mather Hall

FIRST MEETING OF SEMINARS, FOCUS AND GATEWAY PROGRAMS, 9:00 a.m.
Students in the First-Year Seminars, the Focus Program, the Guided Studies, Interdisciplinary Science, Cities, and InterArts programs will meet with their faculty members and mentors.

First-Year Advising Begins, 10:00 a.m.

LUNCH, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Washington Dining Room, Mather Hall

"A PRESENTATION BY JHUMPA LAHIRI," 2:00 p.m., Koeppel CSC
Bring your copy of The Namesake for the book-signing session that follows.

MATRICULATION CEREMONY AND ACADEMIC PROCESSION, 5:00 p.m.
Members of the Class of 2011 will take the Matriculation Oath in the Chapel.

DINNER, 5:45 p.m.

SECOND MEETING OF ORIENTATION GROUPS, 6:45 p.m.

COMEDY WITH MARIA FALZONE, 8:00 p.m., Vernon Social Center

EVENING ACTIVITIES, 9:30 p.m.


Saturday, September 1st

THIRD MEETING OF ORIENTATION GROUPS, 9:00 a.m.
First-Years will meet with their Orientation Groups over brunch.

CLASS PICTURE, 12:30 p.m.
The Class of 2011 will pose for a group photograph.

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS, all afternoon

BOOK SIGNING CEREMONY, 1:00-6:00 p.m.
Students will meet individually with President Jones to sign the Matriculation Book in the Chapel.

DINNER, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

UPPERCLASS PANEL: "WHAT I WISH I HAD KNOWN...," 7:00 p.m.


Sunday, September 2nd

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS, all day

VERNON STREET BLOCK PARTY & DINNER, 5:00-7:00 p.m., Vernon Street


Saturday, September 8th

COMMUNITY SERVICE DO-IT DAY
First-year students are encouraged to participate in a community improvement project at on- and off-campus sites. First-year students will join Trinity upperclass students, faculty members and staff members as they take part in this annual servathon.
