How can a tutor help me?
Most courses meet only 2-3 hours per week. By meeting outside of class for additional, intensive one-on-one sessions with peer tutors who understand the course material, you can master material more quickly and prepare more effectively for class and exams.
Trinity Tutors are faculty-recommended students who have earned high grades in their subject area and who have participated in a tutor training workshop with Dean Reuman.
Tutors can help you improve academic performance by giving you an opportunity to:
- Work one-on-one with a knowledgeable peer,
- Clarify and discuss concepts from your course,
- Ask questions in a non-intimidating setting,
- Strategize about ways to prepare better for class,
- Learn ways to prepare more effectively for tests and quizzes in your course,
- Catch up if you have fallen behind,
- Strengthen your ability to self-assess, self-monitor, and self-teach,
- Gain greater self-knowledge and confidence, and
- Create meaningful relationships on campus.
By learning how to help yourself, you build greater confidence as well as greater mastery of the subject. Ultimately, tutors may even help you find more enjoyment in the process of learning itself!

When should I seek a tutor?
As soon as you think you need one! Tutors are available in several subject areas, but by the last weeks of the semester they may have filled their schedule with other students who sought their assistance earlier, or they may be busy meeting the demands of their own courses.
