How Can the Deans Help You Achieve Academic Excellence?

Individualized Academic Advising

In collaboration with faculty members, Deans Alford, Card, and Reuman can work with you individually to assess your academic strengths and weaknesses, prioritize your goals, and come up with a plan for academic success.

Tutoring

Dean Reuman can help you locate a peer tutor if you need one in a particular subject and can give you several cost-free alternatives.

Academic Excellence Workshops

Dean Reuman can show you how to assess and develop learning styles, and show you ways to use notes more effectively, study more efficiently, prepare for tests for better results, take tests with less anxiety, squeeze more time out of your week, and get the most out of your brain. She can also talk to you about ways to negotiate more effectively with professors, how to navigate the system, and how to self-assess, self-monitor, self-mentor, and self-teach: all talents that will help you both at Trinity and beyond.

Learning Disabilities Services at Trinity

Deans Alford, Card, and Reuman can connect you to our learning specialist who can provide options for diagnostic testing and review your documentation. The Dean of Students Office will work with you and your professors to coordinate appropriate accommodations.

Midterm Evaluation (Progress Report) Assessment and Strategic Planning

Faculty concerned about a student’s academic performance or attendance at midterm often submit written evaluations of a student’s work to the Registrar’s Office, which sends copies to the student, the student’s advisor, and the Dean of Students Office. These reports are intended to give you an opportunity to improve your work before final grades are calculated. The deans can go over progress reports with you and advise you about options to salvage your semester academically. They can also discuss ways to avoid having progress reports in future semesters.

But remember: you do not need to receive a report to talk with your professor, advisor, or dean! Come in before you are having serious difficulty so that we can help you get back on track!

Academic Probation Support Services

If you are on academic probation, the deans can meet with you regularly to discuss insights into your situation, to develop learning strategies if necessary, and work with you to plan for your academic success. Dean Reuman will also offer—new this semester—an Advance Program to help students who are on academic probation get off to a strong start, connect to useful resources, and re-establish good academic standing.

See Special Events & Opportunities: Advance Program

Additional Academic Resources on Campus

Deans Alford, Card, and Reuman can also help you connect with specific services on campus that can help you achieve academic success.
