U-Pass Mission
The University Pass (U-Pass) is a five-year old collaboration between Trinity College and CT Transit with many benefits for both the Trinity students and the Hartford Community. Funded by the Trinity Student Government Association, the U-Pass is a semester-long pass (a new one is issued each semester), giving students the freedom to ride CT Transit local service buses as they wish, without any out-of-pocket costs. The U-Pass system allows Trinity students to venture into the vast off-campus world for entertainment, cuisine, shopping, community involvement or just exploration. Furthermore, it saves a great amount of money for students catching a plane home from Bradley Airport or a bus/train home from Union Station.
One of the goals of this partnership is to make higher education institutions active in promoting the use of public transportation in Greater Hartford so as to reduce the reliance on the automobile. The benefits of such a program are numerous, including a reduced need for parking and enhanced air quality. Moreover, this program furthers the College’s efforts to be a more active and engaged member of its community of Hartford. How we choose to move around in a community is as important as the other things we do. By using CT Transit as one of the primary ways to transport ourselves throughout Hartford, we further promote a change in our perception of Hartford from that of an unknown entity to that of a community that is familiar and embraced as such.
