Scanning Services

Scanning: Images, Transparencies and Slides

If there are no digitized images already available online, you may use one of the image scanners in the Raether Library and Information Technology Center to digitize your content. Available to faculty, staff and students are two Hewlett Packard flatbed scanners located outside of the Blume Language Center located on Level 1. These scanners are useful for general purpose image scanning (in particular for the Web and PowerPoint). One of these scanners is connected to a Windows computer while the other is connected to a Macintosh. The staff in Media Technology Services (MTS) on Level 1, the staff in Academic Computing (ACS) on Level A, and the Help Desk staff on Level B will be happy to provide training on any of these scanners.

For a higher quality scan, there is an Epson 1680 professional flatbed scanner located in room 121 in the Raether LITC. It is connected to a Windows computer. Transparencies can be scanned with this scanner as well. Also located in LITC Room 121 is a Nikon slide scanner. Stop by the Music and Media Desk to gain access to room 121.

Media Technology Services and Academic Computing may be able to provide additional scanning assistance for teaching, research and college-related business for faculty and staff. Contact MTS or ACS for more information.

Scanning: Documents

The two Hewlett Packard scanners outside of the Blume Lab on Level 1 have OCR (optical character recognition) software which provide the ability to scan paper copies of typed documents directly into Microsoft Word files.

There are also .pdf scanners, also called digital senders, available in most academic buildings on campus, including on Level A of the the Raether Library and Information Technology Center, near the Reference Desk.  These scanners allow you to scan a document into a .pdf file which is sent to your e-mail address as an attachment.
