Student Technology Assistant Program

The Student Technology Assistant (STA) Program is designed for faculty who would like to enhance their classroom experience in one or more of their courses, but feel they may require additional assistance due to time or technological constraints. The program’s goal is to provide faculty with a means to develop technology and classroom related projects that enhance their teaching mission, as well as to provide students with a practical and beneficial experience using technology. Each project group consists of one or more Student Technology Assistants, a faculty member and an Academic Computing Resource Specialist. Additional staff from the library and other support organizations may also be consulted.

Student Technology Assistants conduct most of the project development work, with faculty providing ongoing feedback throughout their progress. Academic Computing staff provide any training or materials necessary to complete the project, as well as provide oversight and facilitate communication between faculty and the student assistants. A list of STA Projects is available.

STA Project Proposal Form for Faculty

Academic Computing is seeking project proposals for the STA Program. Proposals are accepted at any time. Proposals for projects to be developed over the summer should be submitted by March 30th. Proposals for project work during a semester should be submitted one month before the semester begins. This ensures appropriate resources are allocated for all project work conducted.

Faculty responsibilities for accepted proposals include:

  • Ongoing meetings with the project team (this schedule will vary, depending on the timeline and complexity). Faculty feedback during development is essential for success.
  • A short project completion report, detailing the outcomes of the project.
  • Dissemination of the findings or results, typically in the form of an on-campus presentation.

Student Technology Assistant Job Application

Academic Computing is also asking for recommendations for Student Technology Assistants. If you know of any responsible, reliable students who would like to participate, please let your Resource Specialist know. Technical experience is not necessary; only a willingness to learn, and a strong desire to achieve a stated goal.
