Fifth Annual Trinity Film Festival Coming to Cinestudio on May 7

Noteworthy Panel to Judge Undergraduate Student Films

Hartford, Connecticut, May 5, 2016 – The fifth annual Trinity Film Festival will be held on Saturday, May 7, at Cinestudio on the campus of Trinity College. The festival will begin with a pre-reception on Friday, May 6, at 7 p.m. On Saturday, doors will open at 4 p.m. when the red carpet rolls out, followed by the film screenings at 5 p.m. A reception with live music, food, and drinks will follow at 8 p.m. at Mather Hall. The festival will conclude with an awards ceremony at approximately 9 p.m., during which the winners of the festival will be announced by a prestigious judging panel including actor Mark Moses.

Founded in 2012, Trinity Film Festival provides undergraduate filmmakers with the opportunity to screen their cinematic works in Cinestudio’s theater. At the festival, students from across the country will meet to discuss and premier their films, connect with professionals in the industry, and win awards and cash prizes. This event attracts some of the most talented student filmmakers in the country. In order to be considered for Trinity Film Festival, films must be no longer than 10 minutes and must be made by an undergraduate.

From the dozens of submissions, roughly 20-25 films are picked to be screened at the event. A committee of judges deliberates during the reception after the screenings to select the winners. They choose the first-, second-, and third-place winners for the best films. Other awards include honorable mentions for audience choice, alumni choice, screener’s choice, and individual awards for best director, best writing, best acting, best sound, and best cinematography. In the past, the panel of judges has consisted of noteworthy directors, actors, and other film professionals. John Michael Mason ’12, the director of Trinity Film Festival, works throughout the academic year with Trinity students to organize the annual event. The students help to fundraise, promote, and do outreach for the festival.
