Hartford, CT, December 19, 2014 – Members of Trinity’s Mock Trial Team put in long hours throughout the fall semester, taking on roles as attorneys and witnesses, and practicing arguing both sides of a fictional case. In November and December, they competed at regional Mock Trial events at Tufts and Yale, with members Ethan Cantor ’16 and Youlan Xiu ’15 bringing home, respectively, outstanding attorney and outstanding witness awards from the Tufts invitational tournament.

According to the American Mock Trial Association, participation enables students to develop “critical thinking and public speaking skills, as well as knowledge of legal practices and procedures.”

Trinity’s Mock Trial Team faculty adviser is Adrienne Fulco, associate professor of legal and policy studies, and coach is Timothy Dunn, associate director of student services for social houses. Dunn said the students, all of whose preparation takes place outside the classroom, are looking forward to the spring Mock Trial tournament season and the group hopes to collaborate with Wesleyan’s team on a scrimmage in February.
